In this intimate mixed repertory performance, Laurel Lawson and Alice Sheppard perform stunning solos, reset fan-favorite excerpts of Kinetic Light’s signature work, DESCENT, sensual duets from the company’s newest work, The Next T.i.M.es, and more. The performance is set in a dynamic and flexible new lighting design by Annie Wiegand.
Laurel Lawson is upside down, weaving through the bridge that Alice Sheppard’s body creates. Laurel’s legs are on Alice’s back, her head tucked as her torso wraps around Alice’s torso. The curves of their bodies mirror the curves of their wheels. Laurel is a white person with cropped hair and pale freckled skin and Alice is a multiracial Black woman with coffee-colored skin and blonde curly hair piled atop her head; they both wear dark shimmery sleeveless bodysuits. The background is a soft cream.

Alice flies, arms wide, balancing atop Laurel's shoulder. Laurel looks slyly to the camera, one arm low on their wheel. They wear bright jewel tones and sparkling black mesh; around them is a cityscape of brick and glass. Photo Yael Malka // A Sense of Shifting: Queer Artists Reshaping Dance
Alice Sheppard balances: feet planted, lifting her wheels slightly off the ground as she reaches her arms high overhead. Laurel Lawson mirrors her lower embodiment, and leans over, placing her hands on Alice’s knees and looking up toward Alice’s raised hands. Laurel is a white dancer with cropped blue hair and Alice is a multiracial Black woman with short curly orange hair; they both wear shimmery sleeveless costumes. Their shadows dance behind them on a blue screen. Photo Christopher Duggan / Lincoln Center
